Vaastu has its origin rooted in Indian science and architecture. It consists of five natural elements and collectively they are called “Panchabhootas”. These five elements are fire, water, earth, air and space. Each of these elements significantly affects our life. Vaastu shastra guides us about how to make a good and balanced use of these five elements to gain the optimum benefits.
Let’s understand the importance of these elements according to what vaastu says.
Fire: The south-east corner represents fire. That is why, the south-east corner is considered the best place to have kitchen. You can place heat generating appliances and heavy objects at this corner. It does not make a perfect place for drainage system or septic tank. Sleeping with your partner at this corner should be avoided as well.
Water: The north-east corner represents water. This corner of the house is believed to be a place of almighty and therefore, makes a perfect place to build your prayer room. Never fail to keep the place clean, as it is the most sacred corner of your house. Try to avoid placing heavy objects at this corner. It is also an ideal corner to be used as the main entrance of your living space. It is better not to build up master bedroom, staircase or toilets at this place.
Earth: It is represented by the south-west corner. It is the perfect place to have lockers of jewellery and cash. Avoid having living room, children’s room, kitchen, bathroom and even the main entrance at this portion of your house. Walls in this part should be thicker if compared with those along the north-east corner.
Air: This element is represented by the north-west corner. You can have living room, bedroom, guest room, wash-basins and toilets at this part of your living space. The drainage system should preferably built up in such a way that the rain water flows to the north-west direction. The place is ideal to have bedroom for the newly wed couple. However, it is not the right corner for having under-water tank or kitchen.
Centre: It represents space. The ideal plot for your house should be square or rectangular in shape. Avoid buying a plot triangular, oval or round in shape. This portion should be free of clutters. No pillar, wall, staircase, bedroom or toilet should be constructed at the centre.
